It’s Easier With God

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

I grew up in an atmosphere of love. My parents loved each other, and they dearly loved their children. My youth was also happy. I was active in the Leninist Young Communist League in school, then went on to be educated at the institute, where I earned a degree in mechanical engineering. My husband was a very good man who loved me, and I loved him. We had four children, and every year, our whole family and many of our friends would go on hiking trips to the mountains or the ocean. It seemed that our happiness would never end, but it did.

Suddenly, my beloved husband died of a heart attack. It was a real tragedy, and it felt like I had lost everything. I had four young children to care for, and I didn’t have enough money, energy, or time to do so. My soul felt a longing and an emptiness that nothing could fill.

My children were the only reason I survived throughout the tragic situation since everything was now for them. Just in case, I decided to baptize them, and then I was baptized, myself, even though I didn’t understand the meaning of this rite nor feel the presence of God.

Neither the state of my heart nor my life changed in any way, but the Lord made Himself known in a different way. One day I saw an advertisement for a Bible study series, and I began to attend and hear what the Scriptures said about God. Unfortunately, this lasted only for a time because my affairs and worries distracted me. But the craving in my soul for knowledge about God remained.

God did not leave me, and after a while, someone called and offered to continue studying the Bible at the local church. I agreed, and this time I attended all of the sessions. I learned how to pray, and I learned about my character shortcomings, despite thinking I was living a sin-free life. I continued to go to that church, and my problems did not go away at all. However, with God, it became much easier to solve them!

Most importantly, I got to know God as a Person with whom I can easily communicate today. I recognize Him as the One who is able to give new and wonderful meaning to my life. Today, I understand that the loss of my husband does not mean that I lost everything. My life is not over. In a sense, it’s just beginning. There is eternity ahead with Jesus Christ, who loves me with an everlasting love!
