Dear Father,

I've seen people get worked up about their supposed lateness in finding a suitable spouse; students who feel disappointed after not being admitted into a higher institution at a certain time; and professionals who would not rest until they have secured a role. Often, our external expressions of urgency toward achieving a certain goal, and the subsequent disappointments, are reflections of our inward expectations tied to time.

I wonder, still, why we feel pressed about every other area of life, yet remain passive about our relationship with You. Meanwhile, when the Scripture speaks of urgency, it rarely speaks of things. It says, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”

The “while” in this passage points to an appointed time. But how often do we take into consideration the need to pursue a relationship with You as though there comes a time when You may no longer be found? Why do our priorities lean so heavily toward things, as though our greatest treasures are found in them?

Lately, there has been pressure around every other thing except what truly matters. Father, how did we get here? One of the clearest revelations of our spiritual state can be found in our priorities.
