Need to know.
The Catholic Church teaches that some believers have to go to purgatory to be “purified” by fire before they can enter heaven, but this completely contradicts the Bible. When Jesus died on the cross, He didn’t leave a tab for us to finish paying later; He shouted, “It is finished!” (John 19:30). By claiming that Christians need to suffer in a “waiting room” after death, the Catholic Church is basically saying that Jesus’ blood wasn’t enough to wash away every sin. The Bible makes it clear that there is no condemnation for those in Christ (Romans 8:1), so the idea that God would punish His children in a cleansing fire is a flat-out denial of the Gospel and the gift of grace.

Scripture also leaves absolutely no room for a middle ground or a second chance after you die. When Jesus was on the cross next to a common criminal, He didn’t tell him he’d see Him after a few hundred years of purging; He said, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). The Apostle Paul backed this up by saying that to be away from the body is to be at home with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). There is no “detour” mentioned anywhere in the New Testament. Purgatory is a false doctrine that robs people of the peace and assurance that Christ’s sacrifice was 100% successful the first time.
