GOD'S WORD FOR THE DAY
“God’s Sovereign Mercy”
Romans 9:15
“For He says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.’”
This is the Word of God. Romans 9 confronts us with the truth that God’s purposes and choices flow from His sovereign mercy, not from human achievement. Paul reminds believers that God is free to show mercy according to His wisdom and goodness, and this calls us to trust Him even when we cannot trace every detail of His plan.
Rather than breeding fear, this truth should produce humility and worship. When we recognize that our standing before God rests on His mercy, we are driven to prayer, dependence, and compassion toward others. God’s mercy doesn’t nullify responsibility; it empowers us to live obediently and to share that mercy with the world.
May we rest in God’s wise and loving choices, seeking His mercy for ourselves and extending it to others. Amen.
