We live in a world trained to hold tightly—money, security, possessions, opportunities, and authority. Fear tells us that if we release too much, we may not have enough left for ourselves. So we calculate, protect, and preserve. Yet God often tests our faith not by what we receive, but by what we are willing to release. The question is not whether we have resources—but whether we trust the Source of them all.
Paul was not merely collecting an offering—he was teaching believers that biblical giving is not forced; it is joyful. God is the Source, everything else is just a resource. He is rich and not interested in our treasures, but willing hearts that trust Him fully.
“๐๐ฐ๐ต ๐จ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฅ๐จ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ญ๐บ, ๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ค๐ฆ๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ต๐บ” means giving under pressure of obligation rather than giving cheerfully. Picture an open hand beneath a fountain. Cupped palms try to hoard the water, yet lose it through trembling fingers. Open hands receive the steady flow, trusting the Source to supply what is truly needed. Faith gives openโhanded because it trusts the Giver more than the gift.
The Scriptures repeatedly connect generosity with trust in God: “๐๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ธ๐ช๐ต๐ฉ ๐ต๐ฉ๐บ ๐ด๐ถ๐ฃ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ” (๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ ๐:๐). Faith understands that everything we possess already belongs to God.
Too often, we cling to temporary things as though our security depends upon them. But fear hoards while faith releases. Do not live like a clenched fist that can neither give nor receive. Tight hands often reveal tight trust. Faith opens its hands because it knows God’s supply never runs dry.
Christ Himself is the greatest Giver of all. He gave not merely possessions, but Himself. At the cross, He withheld nothing for our salvation. Through His finished work, we learn that true giving flows from hearts transformed by grace.
What are you holding so tightly that God calls you to release—time, talent, treasure? You don’t need Christ merely to bless what you keep—you need Him to multiply what you release. Stop clinging to resources as if they are yours. Trust Him. Release your grip. Because the open hand is the hand that receives.
Heavenly Father, forgive us for trusting possessions more than trusting You. Teach us to give with willing hearts and confident faith. Remind us that all we have comes from Your hand. Help us reflect the generosity of Christ in all we do. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Remember, a dose of God’s Word a day will keep you going all day!
