What God Wants From Me.
By Antonina Kuznetsova l May 25
My life was going well. I had a loving husband and two children, and we enjoyed prosperity, love, and joy. But something was missing. Growing up in Russia, I had no idea where all these blessings came from, but looking up at the sky one day, I thought, Somewhere out there in the Universe, there is God, and there are angels. But what kind of God is He, and what does He want from me?
In 1991, I bought a New Testament but understood very little. Then, as my husband and I came back from our summer cottage, we saw billboards announcing the visit of an Australian pastor, John Carter, who was speaking about historical and archaeological facts based on the Bible. I was overjoyed! It's too late to go today, but I'll be there tomorrow! I thought.
I didn't miss another sermon, and I accepted the messages with all my heart. God had given His Son to die for us. His holy blood cleansed us from all sin, and now He invited us into His Kingdom to spend eternity with Him. So this is who God is! I thought.
I fell in love with the Lord and was baptized, and Pastor Carter urged us to pray, read the Bible every day, and gather with other believers. My husband was apprehensive at first, but then he saw my eyes were shining with love. I began loving all people. I started a new life and attended my new church as if it were a holiday. Christ lived in me, and I felt His presence!
Three wonderful years later, I faced a severe test when I found a tumor on my chest the size of a walnut. I showed it to my husband, and he said with surprise, "Why did your God punish you?"
I answered him: "Maybe it's not punishment. Perhaps the Lord has decided that I'm ready for life in His Kingdom and He wants to take me to Himself." However, that evening, I knelt in my kitchen. Through my tears, I said, "Lord! You know I'm a sinner—both with my words and thoughts. I'm not ready for Your Kingdom, and I don't understand why You allow this into my life. Am I living the wrong way? What do You want from me, Lord? Please tell me!"
The next day, a doctor referred me to an oncology surgeon who examined me and made an appointment for surgery. As I sat waiting for tests, I saw the long line of suffering patients and thought, These people don't know the truth about salvation. They could die forever!
The next day I went back and spoke to the sick about Jesus, His saving love, and eternal life. Some of them cried and thanked me for the message of salvation. I couldn't get to them all, but the next day I went back and made it to all 36 waiting rooms. I felt great joy that I'd managed to do something for the Lord!
Then, a few days later, I realized my tumor had disappeared! My husband checked and was also surprised. I waited a few more days then went to my surgeon, who examined me. He shook his head and said, "I don't understand. Where did your tumor go?"
"It seems to me that Christ healed me!" I said, and for the next 20 minutes, I told him and the nurse about Jesus and my new church. I gave them some of the spiritual literature I had brought along. As I left the hospital, I understood what God wants from me: He wants me to tell people the good news of salvation. Since then, I've been talking about Jesus anywhere I can—in prisons, hospitals, even on the bus or the subway. After all, Jesus said, "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." Matthew 24:14.
God has opened the doors for the preaching of the gospel in my country because He loves Russians. He calls us to choose Christ and to submit to Him because He is our protection. With sincere repentance and the forgiveness of our sins, we can be eternal inhabitants of His Kingdom.
"Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14. Oh, what a joy it is to bring the gospel to the people around us!
