Deuteronomy 8:18

“Remember the Lord your God. It is He who gives you the power to gain wealth. Why does He do this? Because He is keeping the covenant He swore to your ancestors, just as He is doing today.”

1. Remember

God says, “Remember Me.”

In the Bible, “remember” means more than simply recalling something. It means depending on God, honoring Him, and walking in His ways.

2. Power

The verse says that God gives the power to gain wealth.

Here, “power” is not limited to financial ability. It also includes wisdom, discernment, discipline, the ability to recognize opportunities, courage, perseverance, and other God-given capacities.

3. Covenant

The central focus of this verse is not wealth, but God’s faithfulness.

God is telling Israel:

“I am blessing you because I am faithful to the covenant I made.”

Therefore, the main emphasis of this verse is not on becoming rich, but on the faithfulness of God.

Summary

This verse teaches that:

* Do not forget God when success comes.
* Every ability you possess is a gift from God.
* God is faithful to His promises; therefore, live with humility, gratitude, and obedience.

Many people see only “wealth” in this verse, but its deeper spiritual message is:

“God is the source, not you.”
