W͟h͟a͟t͟ D͟o͟e͟s͟ I͟t͟ M͟e͟a͟n͟ t͟o͟ H͟o͟n͟o͟r͟ F͟a͟t͟h͟e͟r͟ a͟n͟d͟ M͟o͟t͟h͟e͟r͟? Part Two Subtopic: *The Revelation of Father and Mother* 📖 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” — Exodus 20:12 In the first section, we saw that this commandment was given specifically to the children of Israel (Exodus 19:1–3). It was not handed to the Gentiles. By natural birth, Gentiles were not under the Ten Commandments. [highlight] The entire Old Testament is a prophetic witness pointing to the Messiah. The command to honor father and mother is part of the Law given through Moses to Israel (Exodus 19:1–3; John 1:17). When the Messiah came, He declared: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Matthew 5:17). Moses himself wrote about Christ (John 1:45–47). Thus, the commandment “Honor your father and your mother” ultimately points to Christ. True Israel Revealed Paul explains that true Israel is not outward but inward: “A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly… No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit.” (Romans 2:28–29). Circumcision here means righteousness. And Christ Himself is the true Israel. 📖 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.” (John 15:1) Israel was once called God’s vine (Psalm 80:8; Isaiah 5:1–2,7; Jeremiah 2:21). But Jesus declares Himself to be the true vine — the true Israel. Glorious Gospel Of Jesus Christ The Son and the Father Israel was a shadow pointing to the Messiah. In Christ, Israel is fulfilled. 📖 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Thus, God is the Father who is to be honored by His Son, Israel — Jesus Christ. Christ Himself testifies: 📖 “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” (John 17:4) Here we see Jesus honoring His Father.
