Introduction Mark 12:1–12 records the Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers, one of the strongest confrontations Jesus gave against the religious leaders of Israel. Through this parable, Jesus exposed the long history of Israel rejecting God's messengers and revealed that the religious leaders were now rejecting the very Son of God Himself. The parable also points prophetically to the coming death of Jesus and the transfer of kingdom responsibility to others who would receive and proclaim God's truth faithfully. Jesus uses familiar imagery from the Old Testament, where Israel was often described as God's vineyard.
