Keeping Our Word Before God

Scripture

Numbers 30:2 (NKJV)
If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

Faithfulness in Our Commitments

In this verse, God teaches Israel the seriousness of making vows. When a person made a promise to the Lord, it was not to be taken lightly or spoken casually. God expected His people to be faithful to their word, because their integrity reflected His character. As God is faithful, His people were to be faithful.

For believers today, this verse calls us to be people of honesty, integrity, and commitment. Whether we make a promise to God or to others, our words matter. In a world where commitments are often broken and promises forgotten, God calls His people to stand out—keeping their word even when it is difficult.

This verse reminds us that integrity honors God. Faithfulness in small things prepares us for greater things, and keeping our word reflects the faithfulness of the God we serve.

Reflection Questions

1. Do I take my commitments seriously, whether to God or to others?

2. Are there promises or obligations I need to fulfill or revisit?

3. How can I grow in integrity so that my words consistently honor God?

Prayer

Lord God, help me to be a person of integrity. Teach me to honor my commitments and to speak with sincerity. Strengthen me to keep my word and to reflect Your faithfulness in everything I do. In Jesus name, Amen.
