"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."
Hebrews 12:11
DISCIPLINE THAT BEARS FRUIT
Discipline is not pleasant. It is "at first painful." But it then produces something," meaning that the time spent practicing discipline is an investment. The sadness of the present moment produces something in the future that could not have existed without it.
This "then" changes everything; discipline becomes a process oriented toward a better reality, not a punishment.
Discipline only operates fully in those who accept being trained by it, "For those who have been thus trained." One can resist discipline, flee, and not reap the rewards. Or one can allow oneself to be trained by it and reap the peaceful justice it produces.
Do you receive discipline or do you resist it? What stance do you adopt? Accepting to be trained is the condition for reaping its rewards.
Receive discipline even when it is sad. It will produce fruit that nothing else could give. Train yourself by it to bear the peaceful fruit of justice.
