PILGRIM OF DAWN
When my soul was pregnant with sorrow,
They painted over disgust, a smile on their faces.
They watched me stagger and limp;
I felt their gossips biting at my back,
yet I smiled through gritted teeth.
But then a Great Physician called me to His side.
He put new strength in my legs,
a smile on my face,
and new hope in my heart.
He delivered me from sorrow
and washed the blood from my back with His blood.
He made me to stride amongst those who limp and stagger.
He reveled to me a bright light,
and the darkness was ashamed.
I will not be ashamed of the One who saved me
when the wicked licked my blood.
I will not be ashamed to bare his light.
I will not be ashamed of the One who took a bleeding pilgrim,
staggering endlessly in the dark,
and made him a pilgrim of the dawn.
Woe to the wicked! I am not ashamed.
I have been called,
and I will sing His praises
like a canary that is escaped from the snare of the fowler.
He is my Sheppard; I shall not want.
He is my pillar; I shall not fall.
I will speak his truth.
I will walk in in the light.
I will stand ready when He comes as a thief in the night.
