Proverbs 3:21-22
"My son, do not lose sight of these things; observe wisdom and discretion, for they shall be life to your soul and grace to your neck."
WISDOM AND DISCRETION, GUARDIANS OF THE SOUL
"Do not lose sight of"—discernment requires effort. It demands a deliberate decision to focus attention on wisdom and discretion.
"Wisdom" is the gift of seeing with God's eyes.
"Discernment," in Hebrew "mezimmah," is the ability to plan, anticipate, and weigh things up. Discernment is a combination of the two.
Wisdom nourishes the inner life (the life of the soul) and beautifies the outer life (the visible grace in behavior and character). Inner discernment always produces a visible difference.
Before making any decision, seek divine wisdom through prayer and the Word, practice reflection, weigh the consequences, and consult with wise people. This will give you the sound discernment you need.
Father, give me the wisdom to see situations as you see them. And give me the discernment to weigh decisions carefully in the name of Jesus.
