“He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart…” (John 12:40, KJV)
Beloved, one of the most fearful judgments of God is not thunder, fire, or famine—it is when God gives a man over to the hardness of his own heart. When a person rejects truth again and again, ignores conviction, and loves sin more than righteousness, the heart begins to grow cold. What once brought tears now brings no feeling. What once troubled the conscience no longer moves the soul.
Pharaoh hardened his heart, and eventually God hardened it (Exodus 9:12). This is the danger of pride and sin—they blind the eyes and shut the ears to God’s voice.
The Lord is merciful, but His patience must not be abused. Today, if you hear His voice, harden not your heart (Hebrews 3:15, KJV). Every ignored warning, every delayed repentance, and every cherished sin can make the heart more calloused.
But there is hope. Jesus can soften the hardest heart. He can break the chains of pride, remove the blindness of sin, and give a new heart of flesh.
Do not wait until conviction fades. Repent now. Cry out like David: “Create in me a clean heart, O God” (Psalm 51:10, KJV).
A hardened heart is a terrible judgment— but a broken and contrite heart, God will never despise.
