Don't Let Fear Delay Your Obedience
Fear is one of the greatest weapons the enemy uses to hinder believers from obeying God.
Many people know what God wants them to do, but fear keeps them from taking action. Fear of failure, rejection, criticism, loss, uncertainty, or even success can cause a person to delay obedience.
Delayed obedience is often disobedience. God's blessings, breakthroughs, and divine purposes are connected to our willingness to obey Him promptly.
Today, God is calling us to trust Him and not allow fear to delay our obedience.
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." — 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
1. Fear Causes People to Miss Divine Opportunities.
When God speaks, He expects obedience.
Numbers 13:30-33
The twelve spies were sent to inspect the Promised Land. Ten spies focused on the giants and obstacles, while Joshua and Caleb focused on God's promise.
Because of fear, Israel delayed entering their inheritance and wandered in the wilderness for forty years.
Fear magnifies problems and minimizes God's power.
Ecclesiastes 11:4
"He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap."
Those who wait for perfect conditions may never obey God.
2. Obedience Requires Faith, Not Full Understanding
God often calls us to move before we know all the details.
Example: Abraham
Genesis 12:1-4
God told Abraham to leave his country and family for a land He would show him.
Abraham obeyed without knowing the destination.
Hebrews 11:8
"By faith Abraham, when he was called... obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went."
Faith says, "God knows the way even when I don't."
3. Fear Delayed Moses' Assignment
When God called Moses to deliver Israel, Moses responded with excuses.
Exodus 3:10-11
"Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh?"
Exodus 4:10
"I am slow of speech."
Fear made Moses focus on his weaknesses instead of God's power.
Yet God assured him:
Exodus 4:12
"Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say."
God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called.
4. Peter Walked on Water When He Obeyed
Matthew 14:28-31
When Jesus said, "Come," Peter stepped out of the boat.
As long as Peter focused on Jesus, he walked on water.
When fear took over, he began to sink.
Many believers are still sitting in the boat because fear has convinced them not to move.
Miracles happen outside the comfort zone.
5. Delayed Obedience Can Cost Great Blessings
Example: Jonah
Jonah 1:1-3
God told Jonah to go to Nineveh, but fear and personal feelings caused him to run in the opposite direction.
His delayed obedience brought:
A dangerous storm
Trouble for others
Three days in the belly of a great fish
Eventually, Jonah obeyed and God's purpose was fulfilled.
Running from God's will creates unnecessary struggles.
6. God's Presence Removes Fear
One of God's most repeated promises is:
"Fear not, for I am with thee."
Isaiah 41:10
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.
