“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12

You may be wondering why a devotional would have the title “Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures” or TTPs. It sounds like something that would come from the corporate world or one of our public services, like the police force or firefighters, doesn’t it?

Well, in my case, it stems from almost 12 years of service in the military, or more specifically, the United States Army. One of the very basic things I learned in the military and was trained in often was how to respond to certain events.

We were trained on how to respond to an enemy attack and how to provide basic lifesaving support to an injured soldier. Each scenario had a set of TTPs that created a uniform response. This eliminated chaos and indecisiveness within the ranks while generating a response that required little or no conscious effort—in other words, this created muscle memory.

The same concept applies to my Christian life. When I first became a Christian, I quickly realized that the powers of evil were not ready to let me go without a fight. Then I saw the same things happening to other people who had recently given their hearts to the Lord. It became obvious that Satan had his own set of tactics, techniques, and procedures, and it seemed like the enemy would attack them like clockwork, trying to disrupt or, in worst cases, prevent them from having a relationship with Christ.

Before I became a Christian, while I was still “testing the waters” of life in church, terrible things occurred to those I loved—and to me. On one occasion, my wife was involved in a terrible car accident, and on another, the company I worked for decided to close its doors, and I lost my job.

Why would anyone want to follow Christ when nothing good comes out of it? I wondered, but that was because I didn’t have any understanding of Satan’s TTPs. I didn’t grasp the fact that I was now in a spiritual war.

It took almost a decade until I fully committed to my Lord and Savior, and the same types of attacks happened all over again. This time, however, I was slightly more prepared. I didn’t allow evil to fully corrupt my walk with Jesus. Instead, I studied God’s tactics, techniques, and procedures and realized that His tactic is love, His technique is through Jesus, and His procedure is to abide in Him and He in me. This abiding love through Christ gives me the strength to overcome anything Satan throws my way.

Consider the life of Joseph and Daniel. Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery, yet he never turned from God. Instead, because of his faithfulness, he became one of the most powerful men in Egypt! Daniel was thrown into a lion’s den because he worshiped God, yet his faith never wavered, and God spared him from a gruesome death.

As you continue your journey with Christ, please consider each trial as an opportunity to develop your TTP’s against evil. They will give you the strength to overcome through the grace of our Lord and Savior.
