Discerning the Times – Wisdom for Leadership
Intro.
We are leaders in different spheres: families, businesses, communities, and the body of Christ.
Our anchor scriptures:
1 Chronicles 12:32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.
2Chr.1.10(MSG) - Yes, give me wisdom and knowledge as I come and go among this people--for who on his own is capable of leading these, your glorious people?"
These scriptures reveal two powerful truths:
-Understanding times precedes right action
-Leadership requires divine wisdom, not human strength alone
1. What Does It Mean to Discern the Times?
To discern the times means:
-To see beyond the present moment
-To interpret trends, seasons, and signals
-To know what to do before others realize it
The men of Issachar were not the strongest tribe—but they became strategically influential because they understood timing.
-We must discern timing and seasons for everything to be at the top and remain at the top.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Luke 12:56 – Luke 12:56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
- Jesus rebuked people for not discerning spiritual times
- There is always a rebuke when you miss your season.
-Many men fail not because they lack strength—but because they misread the season.
