4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:4-5, ESV)

The Christian life is marked by an ongoing battle. Every single day, we face a three-fold opposition: the temptations of sin, the pressures of a world system ruled by the enemy, and the stubborn desires of our own flesh. On our own, defeat is inevitable. But scripture gives us a definitive promise: victory belongs to those who have been born of God.

The only way we can truly live in this victory is by placing our absolute faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. Winning this battle isn't about relying on our own willpower; it is about placing our complete confidence in Him. We overcome this world by depending on Jesus daily, living in constant surrender, abiding in His presence, and walking in obedience to His commands.

The Bible clearly commands us not to love the world or anything in it. Yet, we cannot simply force ourselves to stop loving the things around us through sheer effort. To break the grip of this world, our hearts must capture a vision of something far better. We must have a greater object of our affection—and that object must be Jesus Christ.

When our love for Christ grows, our love for the world naturally fades. The things that once captivated us lose their luster in the brilliant light of His worth.

This truth is exactly why Jesus dealt with Peter the way He did after the resurrection. Before Peter could be restored to ministry, the Lord didn't ask him about his past failures, his fears, or his future strategies. Instead, three separate times, He asked him the exact same question:

"Do you love Me?"
Jesus knew that true obedience, lasting ministry, and daily victory can only flow from a heart deeply in love with Him. Love for Christ is the engine of the Christian life.

If the Savior stood before you today and asked you that very same question, how would you respond? If He looked past all your busyness, your struggles, and your achievements, and asked, "Do you love Me?"—would your heart be able to look at Him and sincerely answer, "Yes, Lord"?
