Sarah- Introducing Sarai
What do we know about Sarah, the wife of Abram? She was beautiful (Genesis 12:11). She was seemingly unable to bear children (Genesis 11:30). Sarai live a nomadic life in tents. She and Abram came from Ur of the Chaldeans (Genesis 11:31). They settled in Haran for a while. She and Abram then travelled to Canaan at the command of the Lord (Genesis 12:1). When the Lord God blessed Abram and promised to make into a great nation, Sarai was also chosen to be the intended mother. Her later attempts to fulfil that promise to Abram through another woman went terribly wrong. But God blessed her anyway. And Sarai will be forever remembered as Sarah.
Lord God, through Abraham and Sarah we learn how much you truly love us. Through their faith and through their mistakes we learn that your promises never fail. You have a plan for each and every one of us. You blessed the nations through the offspring of this couple, for in our Lord Jesus Christ our sins are forever forgiven.
Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran fathered Lot. Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his kindred, in Ur of the Chaldeans. And Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and Iscah. Now Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife, and they went forth together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan, but when they came to Haran, they settled there.
