â ONE CHAPTER DAILY
âTodayâs Reading: 1 Timothy 4 (Verses 1â16)
â Theme of the Day
â"Train Yourself for Godliness: Setting the Example"
â Key Takeaways to Meditate On
âDiscerning False Teachings (Verses 1â5): The Holy Spirit clearly warns that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. These hypocrites try to forbid marriage and command people to abstain from certain foods. But Paul reminds us that everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
âSpiritual Workout and Training (Verses 6â10): Just as people train their physical bodies, we must train ourselves for godliness. Physical training has some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. We labor and strive because our hope is set firmly on the living God.
âDon't Let Anyone Look Down on You (Verses 11â12): Paul gives Timothyâwho was relatively young for his massive responsibilitiesâan empowering command: "Donât let anyone look down on you because you are young." Instead, earn their respect by becoming an undeniable example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.
âThrow Yourself into Your Gift (Verses 13â16): Do not neglect your spiritual gifts. Be diligent in reading Scripture, preaching, and teaching. Throw yourself wholly into your assignment so that everyone can see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely, because persevering in them will save both you and your hearers.
âïž Memory Verse of the Day
â"Donât let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity... Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things..."
â 1 Timothy 4:12, 7â8 (NIV)
â Today's Action Step
âChoose one of the five areas from verse 12 to focus on today: speech, conduct, love, faith, or purity. Intentionally make choices in that specific area today that set a positive, Christ-like example for the people around you to see.
â Reflection Question
âPaul tells Timothy to practice these things diligently so that 'everyone may see your progress.' Are you comfortable letting others see your spiritual growth, including the areas where you are still learning and adjusting?
