There Is Still More to Possess

Scripture

Joshua 13:1 (NKJV)
Now Joshua was old advanced in years And the Lord said to him You are old advanced in years and there remains very much land yet to be possessed

Do Not Settle Too Soon

Joshua chapter 13 opens with a striking statement. Joshua is advanced in years, the major battles have been won, and the land has largely been secured. Yet God declares that there is still much land to be possessed. Victory has been real, but the work is not yet complete.

This verse reveals an important spiritual truth. Progress does not mean completion. God acknowledges Joshua’s faithfulness and the victories already won, but He also points forward. There is more territory, more inheritance, and more promise still ahead.

God was not rebuking Joshua. He was reminding him that His purposes extend beyond one season. The unfinished land would now be possessed tribe by tribe, generation by generation. God’s promises were bigger than one leader’s lifetime.

For believers today, Joshua 13 reminds us not to settle prematurely. Spiritual growth is ongoing. God often calls us to continue trusting, obeying, and stepping forward even after significant progress. There is always more of God’s purpose, more maturity, and more impact ahead.

Reflection Questions

1. Have I become comfortable where God is calling me to continue growing

2. Am I settling for partial possession instead of pressing forward in faith

3. What might God be saying there is still more to be possessed in my life

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for the victories You have already given me. Help me not to settle too soon or stop short of Your full purposes. Show me where there is still ground to take and give me faith and obedience to keep moving forward with You. In Jesus name, Amen.
