Do Not Limit What God Has Given

Scripture

Joshua 17:17–18 (NKJV)
So Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, saying, You are a great people and have great power you shall not have only one lot but the mountain country shall be yours although it is wooded you shall cut it down and its farthest extent shall be yours for you shall drive out the Canaanites though they have iron chariots and are strong

Faith That Refuses to Settle

Joshua chapter 17 records a complaint brought to Joshua by the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh. They believed the land given to them was not enough. They focused on their limitations and the strength of the enemy rather than the power of God who had already proven faithful.

Joshua’s response is firm but encouraging. He does not deny their strength or growth. Instead he challenges them to act on it. The land they desired was available, but it required effort courage and faith. The presence of forests and iron chariots was not an excuse to retreat but an opportunity to trust God more deeply.

This chapter teaches that God often gives us more than we initially realize. What looks difficult or demanding is not a denial of promise but an invitation to grow. God expects His people to act in faith not fear and to step into challenges with confidence in His power.

For believers today Joshua 17 reminds us not to limit what God has given by focusing on obstacles. Growth requires effort. Promise requires faith. God calls us to take responsibility for what He has placed before us and to trust Him for victory even when the task looks demanding.

Reflection Questions

1. Have I focused more on obstacles than on God’s strength

2. Am I settling for less when God has given me more

3. What challenge might God be using to stretch my faith

Prayer

Lord God help me not to limit Your promises by fear or hesitation. Give me courage to step into what You have given even when it requires effort and faith. Teach me to trust Your power more than I fear opposition. In Jesus name Amen.
