TODAY'S GOSPEL

Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist
Luke 1:57โ€“66, 80

Today, the Church celebrates the birth of the one chosen to prepare the way for Jesus.

John's birth was no ordinary event.

He was promised by God.
Announced by an angel.
Filled with the Holy Spirit even before birth.

When the time came to name the child, everyone expected him to be called Zechariah.

But Elizabeth said:

"No; he shall be called John."

And Zechariah confirmed:

"His name is John."

Immediately, his speech returned, and he began praising God.

John's name means:

"God is gracious."

His entire life proclaimed that truth.

John grew strong in spirit and prepared in the wilderness for the mission God had given him:

"Prepare the way of the Lord."

Reflection

Perhaps you are in a season of waiting.

Waiting for answers.
Waiting for healing.
Waiting for God to act.

The story of John the Baptist reminds us that God's silence is never God's absence.

God is always at work, even when we cannot yet see it.

Like John, may we prepare the way for Jesus and lead others closer to Him.

Lord, help us trust in Your perfect timing and make our lives a witness to Your love.

Truth for Today:
God's timing is always perfect.

How is God calling you to prepare the way for Jesus today?
