“RELEASE THE WEIGHT”
I used my chainsaw to saw up a huge oak limb that had fallen in the woods. One-by-one, I was carrying each sawn log from the woods to my truck to split later. While I was carrying a log that weighed about 40-50 pounds, my foot got tangled in a vine. I was falling face-first to the ground, but my God-given reflexes went into action instantly. I cast the log away from me and regained my balance without falling. In that split second, the Lord gave me a message: “Release the weight you’re carrying to maintain balance.”
Peter tells us, “Cast all your care upon him, for he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). I got a lesson from this verse, first-hand. Weights don’t just weigh us down emotionally and spiritually … they also make us unbalanced. And, when we’re unbalanced, it’s much easier for us to fall. When we cast off the weights we’ve been carrying, we can maintain better balance in our lives.
Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
