Sadly, this past Monday twenty-eight brothers and sisters in Christ were killed in Nigeria. 72% of Christians killed worldwide for their faith are killed in Nigeria.
Fulani herdsmen guided toward Christian leaders on Monday. June 22) killed 28 Christians, including a pastor, in a raid on a village in Plateau state, Nigeria.
The Fulani terrorists attacked Kawel village, Bokkos County at about 2 a.m., said resident Jesse Peter Dukut.
“We were inside our houses when the Fulani herdsmen invaded our village,” Dukut said. “If anyone came out of their houses, they were shot at sight. And a sound from any of the houses in the village attracts shooting from the terrorists.”
Phone and telecom services were cut, keeping resident from calling any security agencies for help, he said.
“The attackers were speaking to each other in both Fulani and Hausa languages,” he told Morning Star News. “We heard them even mentioning the names of some of our Christian leaders and directing some of them to hunt them down in their homes – an indication they were being guided during the attack by local Fulani herdsmen living in nearby Fulani villages. They killed my uncle and brothers. I narrowly escaped being shot.”
The Rev. Markus Nyam, pastor of Church of Christ in Nations, was among those killed along with members of his local church congregation in Kawel village, said resident Godswill Nuhu.
Heavenly Father, our hearts break for the people of Kawel village. Their safety and security was destroyed by these attackers and they are now without a pastor and twenty-seven of their brothers and sisters. We lift up specifically Jesse Peter because we know him by name. Jesse lost his brothers and his uncle, but many other villagers whose names we don’t know also lost family members and friends. Father, this is beyond heartbreaking. A tragedy of this magnitude is capable of scarring this village for hundreds of years, and we ask that your forgiveness and mercy that knows no bounds might descend on Kawel today. May the fires of bitterness be put out by a flood of forgiveness. May the story of this attack be not one of death but one of unexplainable love. For only you can turn death into life. Only you can turn the cross into a symbol of hope. Only you can heal the hearts of those in Kawel village who are left to pick up the pieces. May your name be lifted up in Kawel, across Nigeria, across Africa, and across the world! In the powerful name of Jesus, our savior and king, Amen.
“But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” Amos 5:24
