And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall BEGIN to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines." — Judges 13:5 (NKJV) Read that text with prophetic eyes! The mandate was not just for Samson to harass the Philistines; the mandate was for him to begin the total deliverance of a nation! Samson was positioned at the starting line of a generational revival. He was equipped with an anointing so violent that a lion was torn apart like a baby goat in his bare hands. But here is the tragedy of Samson: He stopped exactly where God wanted him to start! He never delivered Israel. He never established a legacy of freedom. He died a blind, mocked, grinding slave in the prison of his enemies. Why? Because the man who could conquer an entire army could not conquer his own flesh! The Anatomy of a Wasted Anointing Beloved, hear the Word of the Lord! You can have the Spirit of God come upon you mightily, but if you do not have the fruit of the Spirit—specifically self-control—your gift will become your grave! Look at the terrifying contradictions of Samson's life: He Could Break Ropes, But Not Lust: Samson could snap thick, new ropes off his arms like burning thread under the anointing. But he was utterly bound by his uncontrolled sexual appetite. Apostolic warning: You can cast out demons in a church service, but if you cannot log off the internet when lust calls your name, you are a Samson in the making! He Conquered a Thousand Men, But Was Conquered by One Woman: With the jawbone of a donkey, he slaughtered a thousand Philistine warriors. No man could defeat him in combat. Yet, he was completely subdued, manipulated, and destroyed by one woman in a bedroom. Your public victories mean nothing if you are experiencing private, chronic defeat! Sleeping in the Lap of the Enemy: Samson’s assignment was to destroy the Philistines. Instead, he went down to Sorek and fell in love with Delilah—a daughter of the very system he was anointed to dismantle! When you lose control of yourself, you will start craving the very world system God called you to deliver people from! The Crisis of the Uncrucified Self Samson lost his eyes, his hair, his strength, and his dignity because he lacked self-mastery. He treated his consecration casually. He played games with his spiritual boundaries. He thought his anointing could excuse his lack of discipline. Are you stopping where God wants you to start? Has your lack of discipline, your temper, your secret addictions, or your emotional instability paralyzed your prophetic destiny? Are you relying on the fact that you can still preach, still sing, or still prophesy, not realizing that the presence of the gift does not mean God approves of your lifestyle? You must take control of yourself! You must bring your body under subjection, or after you have preached to others, you yourself will become a castaway! I repent for the times I have relied on my spiritual gifts while neglecting my character. I repent for tolerating the secret sins and appetites that are slowly shaving off my consecration! Father, take a sword to my flesh! Give me the grace of violent self-control. I refuse to sleep in the lap of the enemy I was anointed to destroy! I refuse to stop where You wanted me to start!
