Living to Please God

1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 NIV Biblical Theology SB Zondervan 2018 As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.

For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

It is God's will that you should be sanctified; that you should avoid sexual immortality;

that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable,

not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;

and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.

For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.

Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

Living to please God

That every one of you should know how ti possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

Not in the lust of concupiscience, even as the Gentiles which know not God;

That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter; because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

He therefore that at despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

A Life That Pleases God

1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 CEV Learning ABS 2000 Finally, my dear friends, since you belong to the Lord Jesus, we beg and urge you to live as we taught you. Then you will please God. You are already that way, but try even harder.

Remember the instructions we gave you as followers of the Lord Jesus.

God wants you to be holy, so don't be immoral in matters of sex.

Respect and honor wife.

Don't be a slave of your desires or live like people who don't know God.

You must not cheat any of the Lord's followers in matters of sex. Remember, we warned you that he punishes everyone who does such things.

God didn't choose you to be filthy, but to be pure.

So if you don't obey these rules, you are not really disobeying us. You are disobeying God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

You know the instructions we gave you on behalf of the Lord Jesus:

the will of God for you is to become holy and not to have unlawful sex.

Let each of you behave towards his wife as a holy and respectful husband

rather than being led by lust, as are pagans who do not know God.

In this matter, let no one offend or wrong a brother. The Lord will do justice in all these things, as we have warned and shown you.

God has called us to live, not in impurity but in holiness,

and those who do not heed this instruction disobey, not a human, but God himself who gives you his Holy Spirit.
