A Secret Conspirator.
A guilty conscience is a good thing because it is God’s way of letting you know that you have done something displeasing to Him. Without it, you wouldn’t be aware that anything was wrong and would continue in your wicked ways. But sometimes the devil likes to use guilt as a weapon against you, and it becomes a secret conspirator, tormenting your soul with inner shame and self-loathing. You feel guilty about past sins that God has already forgiven you for, or blame yourself for something that is not even your fault. The devil would like nothing better than for you to torture yourself into believing that God doesn’t really forgive sins. But don’t allow Satan’s lies and condemning accusations to penetrate your thoughts for one moment. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” God is a loving, forgiving God, and He doesn’t want you to torture yourself with false guilt. You don’t have to keep begging God to forgive you for the same sin He already forgave you for! You can claim His promise in Isaiah 43:25: “I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” Text: Acts 24:16, Romans 8:1, Hebrews 10:22, 1 John 3:2
