𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐭...?

When we hear the story of the prodigal son, most of us immediately see ourselves in the younger brother—the one who wandered far, made mistakes, and eventually came home.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐧?

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫?

He never left the father’s house.
He stayed. He worked. He obeyed.
𝐇𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.

Yet when his lost brother returned, his heart revealed something troubling.
He was close to the father, but distant from the father’s heart.
He knew the rules, but not the joy.
He served in the house, but bitterness quietly lived within him.

It is possible to attend church every week and still be lost.
To know every sermon and still miss grace.
To stay near God physically while your heart drifts far from Him.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝.

One came home from rebellion.
The other never realized he needed to come home at all.

𝐁𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞.
Not everyone who is far from the Father is the lost one.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐝𝐮𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐨𝐝.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭.

Luke 15:11–32 reminds us that 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞—𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭.
