HOW DO WE HUMBLE OURSELVES BEFORE THE LORD?
Humbling ourselves before the Lord is not about self-loathing or diminishing our worth; rather, it is about aligning our hearts with the reality of who God is and who we are in relation to Him. True humility begins with - the intentional surrender of our pride, our personal agendas, and our need to control our own lives. It means stepping off the throne of our own hearts and inviting God to take His rightful place as King.
To humble ourselves, we must first practice absolute honesty in prayer. This means coming to God without pretense, confessing our weaknesses, and acknowledging our deep need for His grace. As James 4:10 reminds us, "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." This verse reveals a beautiful spiritual principle: lowering ourselves in reverence is the exact posture that allows God to elevate and strengthen us.
Another vital element of humility is submission to God's will, especially when it clashes with our own desires. It is the daily choice to say, "Not my will, but Yours be done." This requires deep trust, believing that His plans are inherently better than our own. Peter echoes this call to trust in 1 Peter 5:6: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." Under His hand, we find safety, not restriction.
