Intercession is one of the clearest reflections of the heart of Christ. He is not only the Savior who died for His people. He is the risen High Priest who now lives to make intercession for them. This means that when a believer stands before God on behalf of another, he is stepping into a work that already belongs to Christ Himself. Intercession is not a secondary part of prayer. It is love carrying another soul into the presence of God.

There is something deeply selfless in true intercession. It turns the heart away from its own needs and teaches it to share in the burdens of heaven. To pray for another with sincerity is to echo the ministry of Jesus at the right hand of the Father. “He always lives to make intercession for them” Hebrews 7:25. The Church grows cold when prayer becomes entirely personal, but she begins to carry the fragrance of Christ when she learns to travail for others before God.

If we would be more like Christ, we must learn not only to worship, believe, and obey, but also to intercede. Carry someone before God today. Lift a soul, a family, a friend, or a burdened life before the throne of grace. Christ still intercedes, and every true act of intercession on earth is an earthly echo of His heavenly ministry.
