Daily Bible Lesson.
THE CROSS PROVES GOD'S LAW CANNOT CHANGE.

"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." — Romans 3:31

Many people believe that God's grace replaced His law, but the Bible reveals something far different. The very existence of grace proves the continued authority of God's holy law.

Think about it for a moment.

Why did Jesus have to die?

Why did the Son of God leave heaven, suffer rejection, endure the cross, and bear the sins of the world?

The answer is simple:
Because God's law had been broken.
"For where no law is, there is no transgression." — Romans 4:15

If God's law could have been abolished, then there would have been no need for Christ to die. The penalty of sin could simply have been removed. But God did not abolish His law.
Instead, Jesus paid the penalty that the broken law demanded.

The cross is heaven's greatest declaration that God's law is eternal.
God would not set aside His law—even to save His own beloved Son from death.
Think of what that means!
The Father watched His Son suffer.
The Son willingly bore the guilt of humanity.
The penalty was paid in full.
Justice was satisfied.
Mercy was extended.
The sinner could now be forgiven without compromising the righteousness of God's government.

What amazing love!

What perfect justice!

What incredible grace!

Jesus took upon Himself the punishment that belonged to us so that we might receive the righteousness that belongs to Him.

"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree." — 1 Peter 2:24
No greater demonstration could ever be given concerning the permanence of God's law.
The cross is God's eternal answer to those who claim that His commandments have been abolished.

If the law could have been removed, Calvary would never have been necessary.
The death of Christ proves the unchanging nature of God's moral government.

THE LAW REFLECTS GOD'S CHARACTER
Many fail to realize that God's law is not an arbitrary set of rules.
The Ten Commandments are a reflection of God's own character.

They reveal His holiness.

They reveal His righteousness.

They reveal His justice.

They reveal His love.

To attack God's law is ultimately to attack the character of the Lawgiver Himself.
The commandments are not a burden designed to enslave humanity.

They are a revelation of what God desires His children to become through His transforming grace.

LOOK TO CHRIST
When we honestly look into God's law, we discover our need.
The commandments reveal our sins.
They show us how far we fall short of God's perfect standard.
"By the law is the knowledge of sin." — Romans 3:20
The law cannot save us.
The law was never intended to save us.

The law points us to the Savior.
When we see our sinfulness, we flee to Jesus Christ.
When we see our weakness, we seek His strength.
When we see our guilt, we seek His forgiveness.
And when we surrender fully to Him, He begins a miracle within us.
Christ lives in us.
Christ strengthens us.
Christ transforms us.
Christ writes His law upon our hearts.
"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me." — Galatians 2:20

GRACE DOES NOT CANCEL THE LAW
Many speak of grace as though it removes the need for obedience.
But what is grace?
Grace is God's unmerited favor toward sinners.
Grace is God's forgiveness extended to those who genuinely repent.

Grace exists because sin exists.
And sin exists because God's law exists.
"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." — 1 John 3:4
Without law there can be no transgression.
Without transgression there can be no guilt.
Without guilt there can be no need for forgiveness.
Without forgiveness there can be no grace.
Therefore, the very existence of grace confirms the continued existence of God's law.

Paul understood this perfectly.
"What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid." — Romans 6:15
Grace does not give us permission to continue in sin.
Grace gives us power to overcome sin.
Grace forgives the sinner.
Grace transforms the sinner.
Grace teaches obedience.
Grace restores the image of Christ in the believer.

FAITH ESTABLISHES THE LAW

True faith never destroys God's commandments.
True faith honors them.
True faith leads us to love God.
True faith leads us to obey God.
True faith produces a transformed life.

That is why Paul declared:
"Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law." — Romans 3:31
The gospel and the law are not enemies.
The law reveals our need.
The gospel provides the remedy.
The law points out the disease.
Jesus provides the cure.
The law condemns the sinner.
Christ justifies the sinner.
The law shows us our weakness.
Grace gives us power.

The cross and the law stand together.

Grace and obedience walk hand in hand.

Faith and righteousness are united in Christ.

Today, look to Jesus.
Trust His sacrifice.
Receive His grace.

Allow Him to write His law upon your heart.
And let His life be lived out through you until the day He returns in glory.

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." — 1 John 5:3
