A Nugget of Truth.
THE NEW COVENANT:
GOD'S LAW WRITTEN IN THE HEART.

“I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts” (Hebrews 8:10).

Many people assume that God's grace removes the need for His law. Yet Scripture reveals a far more beautiful truth. The New Covenant does not abolish God's moral law—it changes the location of that law. Under the Old Covenant, God's law was written on tables of stone. Under the New Covenant, God writes that same holy law upon the hearts and minds of His people through the power of Jesus Christ.

The gospel is not merely about forgiveness; it is about transformation. Christ does not simply pardon repentant sinners and leave them unchanged. He restores in them the image of God. Through His indwelling Spirit, He brings believers into harmony with His will and empowers them to walk in obedience.

As the Bible declares:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).

“God did by sending His own Son ... that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us” (Romans 8:3-4).

What a glorious promise! The commandments of God are no longer viewed as an impossible burden. Through Christ living within us, obedience becomes the fruit of a transformed heart. "Thou shalt not" becomes a living reality because Jesus reigns within. We do not refrain from sin merely by human effort, but by the power of Christ working in us.

Some ask, "If we are under grace, are we free from keeping God's law?"

The apostle Paul answers clearly:
“Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!” (Romans 6:15).
“Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law” (Romans 3:31).

Grace is not permission to continue in sin. Grace is God's unmerited favor that forgives us, cleanses us, and empowers us to live a new life. Just as a governor's pardon frees a prisoner from condemnation but not from obedience to the law, God's grace frees us from the penalty of sin while leading us into loving obedience.

True faith never fights against God's law. True faith delights in God's law because it loves the Lawgiver.

Were Old Testament believers saved by keeping the law?

Absolutely not.

No person in any age has ever been saved by law-keeping. Salvation has always been by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Noah found grace. Moses found grace. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Abel, and Enoch were all saved by faith. They looked forward to the coming Messiah just as we look back to the cross.

The law reveals sin, but it cannot remove sin. Like a mirror, it shows us the stains upon our lives, but it cannot wash them away. Only Jesus can cleanse the sinner and provide salvation.

The law points us to Christ.

Grace brings us to Christ.

Faith receives Christ.

And Christ transforms the believer.

God has never changed His moral standard. Instead, He provided His Son so that sinners could be changed. The miracle of the gospel is not that God lowered His standard to fit humanity, but that through Jesus Christ He raises humanity to walk in harmony with His holy standard.

Today, God still offers the same promise:

A new heart.

A renewed mind.

A transformed life.

His law written within.

May we never separate grace from obedience, faith from surrender, or salvation from transformation. The same Savior who forgives us is the Savior who empowers us to overcome. Let us trust completely in Christ, allowing Him to write His law upon our hearts and make us living testimonies of His saving power.

Salvation is by grace alone.

Through faith alone.

In Christ alone.

But saving faith never remains alone—it produces a life of loving obedience through the power of Jesus Christ.

"To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen."
