Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.
Yesterday, while I was set up at my event, a schoolmate walked by with her grandson. At first glance, I actually saw her mother. The voice didn’t match, but boy howdy, the resemblance. We talked and giggled a little about it, and as they departed my particular area, I could not help but see her mom. A very striking resemblance. I remember one time my dad telling me that I looked like my mom. I didn’t really believe him because at that time I did not see their resemblance in me; however, it was not long after that, a random glance at a mirror, and I saw whom I resembled … my dad. Just with longer hair. After that mirror encounter, I told people that I look like my dad, but I act like my mom. This would always bring up some very interesting stories about my parents and their antics.
The similarities between parents and children can be shocking, but they can also be revealing. My jokester side comes completely from my dad. That man could turn a joke out of anything … literally, and everyone would be laughing. My mother has given me the love for knowledge. I want to know stuff. Naturally, there are more attributes that they gave me, but those are the first two that come to mind, singly. Now, the two things that gave me equally were my work ethic and love for family. I was blessed with two very strong parents in their own right.
This made me think about our Heavenly Father. We are all made in His image, each and every one of us. We have all been given His finest attributes to share with the world. If we walk by a mirror, will we see Him or us? When we walk down the street, do others see Him, or us?
My dad’s love for jokes instilled in me a need to make people laugh and not take life so seriously all of the time. My later years in the post office, I opted to engage in that inner child and make the start of my fellow employees' days a lighter beginning. Their joy to start the day was important to me. In my desire to know ‘stuff’, my mother taught me how to make words sing with expression. Thus, I write. In all that I do, my parents are present.
It is my hope that I represent and present my Father in Heaven as diligently as I do my earthly parents. It is my desire to have His true nature exude from my spirit with each person that I have contact with. I want His love to shine through me and land on whomever I am speaking with. Just as I utilize the talents that my earthly parents gave me, I try to exercise my spiritual gifts in the same way.
Which talents and attributes do you display? Are they the love and kindness of the Father, or are they self-centered and self-indulgent? I have to check myself frequently to make sure that I am not getting too big for my trousers.
Today I encourage you to seek His face before each encounter and make sure that you are displaying Him, and not you. Yesterday, my inner not nice person was quickly rising due to circumstances that I could not control, and my flesh side was winning. God rewarded my discipline to not lash out with two sales and several opportunities to plant seeds. Last night, a big storm rolled through, and as I go to check my station and reset up, I have to make sure that I keep myself in check and not lose my spiritual side. How we handle controversy and angst is what truly leads people to Him. If we handle it gracefully, they want to know why, which opens a door to discuss all His promises.
Be blessed.
