THE GREAT APOSTASY:

A CALL BACK TO GOD'S
AUTHORITY, AND TRUTH.

A Prophecy Foretold Before It Happened
One of the greatest evidences of God's divine foreknowledge is found in Bible prophecy. Long before the events unfolded, Scripture warned that a departure from biblical truth would arise within the Christian world.

The apostle Paul wrote:
"For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work." — 2 Thessalonians 2:7
Even during the apostolic age, forces were already moving within the church that would gradually replace the simplicity of Christ's teachings with human traditions, ecclesiastical authority, and practices foreign to Scripture.
What began as a small compromise would eventually grow into a system that challenged God's authority and obscured biblical truth.

Daniel's Prophecy and the Attack on God's Law
The prophet Daniel was shown a vision of earthly kingdoms rising and falling, but among them emerged a power that would challenge Heaven itself.
"He shall intend to change times and law." — Daniel 7:25
This prophecy reveals a power that would seek to alter what belongs to God alone.

The issue was never merely political.

The issue was worship.

The issue was authority.

The issue was whether humanity would follow God's Word or human tradition.

Throughout history, students of prophecy have seen this prediction as relating to changes introduced into Christianity over many centuries.

The Rise of Sunday Observance
History records that in A.D. 321 Emperor Constantine enacted the first civil legislation concerning Sunday observance.
Significantly, the law referred to Sunday as:
"The venerable day of the sun."
This language reflected cultural and religious influences already present within the Roman Empire.
Over time, ecclesiastical leaders elevated Sunday observance throughout Christendom, while the biblical seventh-day Sabbath became increasingly marginalized.

For many believers, this development raises an important question:
Should faith rest upon Scripture alone, or upon traditions developed after the apostolic era?

The Ongoing Battle Between Truth and Tradition
The great controversy throughout Scripture has always centered on one issue:
Will God's authority remain supreme?
From Eden to the final events of earth's history, humanity has been confronted with choices between divine instruction and human reasoning.
The serpent questioned God's Word.
Ancient Israel adopted surrounding pagan practices.
Religious leaders rejected Christ while preserving their traditions.
History repeatedly demonstrates how easy it is for God's people to drift from His revealed truth.
The challenge remains the same today.

A Call to Reformation
The Protestant Reformation was built upon a simple principle:
Sola Scriptura — Scripture Alone
The reformers called believers back to the authority of God's Word above church tradition, political influence, or human authority.
Their message still echoes today:

Return to Scripture.

Return to Christ.

Return to obedience motivated by love.

Return to the faith once delivered to the saints.
God's people are called to examine every doctrine, every practice, and every tradition in the light of His Word.

Babylon and the Final Call
The book of Revelation portrays a final call going out to the world:
"Come out of her, My people." — Revelation 18:4
This is not merely a call to leave an organization.
It is a call to leave confusion.
A call to leave spiritual compromise.
A call to leave every teaching that stands contrary to God's truth.
God is gathering a people whose loyalty is anchored in Christ and whose faith is grounded in Scripture.

The Final Appeal
The final generation will not be saved by tradition.
They will not be saved by institutions.

They will not be saved by majority opinion.

They will be saved by Jesus Christ alone.

And those who love Him will desire to follow Him fully.

The question facing every believer is simple:

Will I follow God's Word wherever it leads?

Will I place Christ above human authority?

Will I stand for truth even when it is unpopular?

The Lord is calling His people to deeper faithfulness, deeper commitment, and deeper devotion than ever before.
May our prayer be:

"Lord, open my eyes to Your truth."

"Give me courage to follow Your Word."

"Keep me faithful to Jesus."

"Lead me in the everlasting way."

"Here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus." — Revelation 14:12
Truth never fears investigation.

Christ never fails those who trust Him.

God's Word remains forever.
