God has to be enough for you. He has to be the one you turn to, lean in to, and rely on for everything.
Don’t go out and seek a soulmate. Realize you already have one that can fulfill all your needs.
A little piece of my story:
I searched all my life for a soulmate, and all I got was a bunch of toxic people in my life.
One day, at the end of a bad relationship, I went outside and screamed at the sky with tears streaming down my face, and said, “I didn’t ask you for nothing, God, NOTHING. I didn’t ask you for big houses, riches, diamond rings, or gold, just someone to love me; a full complete, loving family, and You couldn’t even give me that!”
A short pause passed, and God spoke to my heart a sentence I’ll never forget. He said, “Am I not enough for you?”
I thought about that for a bit and then replied with much sorrow at the thought of the pain I had caused God by rejecting Him as the true Lover and fulfiller of my soul, and I replied, “Yes, God, You are enough for me.”
And that changed everything.
No more looking for love in a man. No more looking for a man to fill my loneliness gap. No more of any of that.
Jesus became the love of my life, and I went to Him to fulfill all my desires and emotional voids.
He wanted first place, and He got it. I no longer had any other gods before Him. He was, is, and always will be my Soulmate.
He says, “Seek ye first the kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” And if God never brings a man in my life, I’m completely content with just God and myself. He is enough for me
God wants first place in your life, and once you give Him that position, you won’t need any other earthly thing to be fulfilled, but if you get it, it’s just a bonus, a blessing.
A person who allows God to fill them and their needs, to handle their emotions and help them to feel whole and complete, will be a compliment to your existence. Everything else is just everyone making others carry the weight of their emotions, and that’s such a huge weight to ask someone to carry. That’s some big shoes to fill.
As humans, we crave connection, meaning, and wholeness, and how desperately we sometimes look for it in the wrong places.
Experience highlights a timeless tension: the ache for “the one” who can complete us, versus the reality that no single person (or even relationship) can carry the full weight of our emotional needs, insecurities, or voids.
Codependency often creeps in when we expect another human to be our savior, healer, and constant source of validation. That weight crushes both people eventually.
Fulfillment in a divine relationship with Jesus as the unchanging foundation changes everything.
Surrendering the search can free people from desperation, and open space for healthier interactions.
Healthy relationships thrive most when both people are already reasonably whole, not when they’re using each other as emotional crutches.
And that’s growth. That’s understanding. That’s an emotionally healthy person who’s ready to receive a love they won’t sabotage.
