Did you know?
“Not so, Lord!”

That was Peter’s response when he saw the sheet and heard the command, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
And that response matters.

If Jesus had already removed the distinction between clean and unclean animals, Peter’s response in Acts 10 makes no sense.

Peter had walked with Christ. He had heard His teaching firsthand. Yet in Acts 10 he still said:

“I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
Acts 10:14

That is why Mark 7 cannot be used to argue that Jesus made unclean animals clean. In that chapter, the issue was not pigs, reptiles, or the food laws of Leviticus 11. The issue was eating with unwashed hands according to the tradition of the elders. Jesus was addressing ritual defilement invented by men — not abolishing God’s distinction between clean and unclean animals.

And Acts 10 itself tells us what the vision meant.

Peter later explained it plainly:

“God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.”
Acts 10:28

So the vision was not instruction to make unclean foods clean. It was God teaching Peter not to treat the Gentiles as unclean.

The vision was about people — not food.
