Lending to the Lord
There is something remarkable about this verse. It doesn’t say that helping the poor is merely a good deed or an act of charity. It says that when we show compassion to those in need, it is as though we are lending directly to God Himself.
Of course, God doesn’t need our money or our possessions. What He desires is our heart. Every act of kindness reflects His own character. When we feed the hungry, encourage the discouraged, comfort the lonely, or provide for someone who cannot repay us, God sees it as a gift offered to Him.
In a world that often asks, “What’s in it for me?” God calls us to love without expecting anything in return. True generosity isn’t measured by the size of the gift but by the willingness of the heart.
Notice the promise attached to this verse: “He will reward them.” God’s rewards don’t always come in financial blessings. Sometimes He rewards with peace, joy, unexpected provision, stronger faith, or treasures stored up in eternity. Whatever form His reward takes, you can trust that God never overlooks a single act of compassion done in His name.
Today, look for opportunities to be the hands and feet of Christ. A kind word, a shared meal, a listening ear, or a helping hand may seem small to you—but to God, it is an investment in His kingdom.
Who in your life could use a tangible act of kindness today, and how can you be God’s provision for them?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your generosity toward me. Help me to see people through Your eyes and to never overlook those who are hurting or in need. Give me a heart that is quick to show compassion and willing to give without expecting anything in return. Teach me to trust that every act of love offered in Your name is precious to You. May my life reflect Your kindness each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Remember, God loves you and so do I.
