The Trajectories

Years ago, God asked me to move from India to South Africa. To be honest, it wasn’t easy. It was a new country, new people, and everything was so uncertain. I had my apprehensions. But I had to trust God and take the step of faith. I packed my life up in a few suitcases (as my mom-in law says) to move to where God asked me to.

Something similar happened to another guy.

The Lord had said to Abram, “GO FROM YOUR COUNTRY, YOUR PEOPLE AND YOUR FATHER’S HOUSEHOLD TO THE LAND I WILL SHOW YOU.” (Genesis 12: 1)
Abram packed his belongings and left for the unknown country that God asked him to set out for.

I at least knew where I was going. Abram just had to set out without many specifications.
I was scared even when I had a lot more details and information.

Abram didn’t even have an itinerary. But God carried him from place to place towards the promised land.

A few years later, there was a famine in the land, and Isaac, son of Abraham {renamed by God from ‘Abram’ to ‘Abraham’ (Father of many nations)}, planned to move to another place.

The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. FOR TO YOU AND YOUR DESCENDANTS I WILL GIVE ALL THESE LANDS AND WILL CONFIRM THE OATH I SWORE TO YOUR FATHER ABRAHAM”. (GENESIS 26: 2-3)

Third generation, Jacob is wandering from one place to another, and God spoke to him.

“There above it stood the Lord, and He said to Jacob: ‘I AM THE LORD, THE GOD OF YOUR FATHER ABRAHAM AND THE GOD OF ISAAC. I WILL GIVE YOU AND YOUR DESCENDANTS THE LAND ON WHICH YOU ARE LYING.’” (Genesis 28: 13)

And we see how generations down the line, the SAME GOD stayed faithful to the promise made to ONE MAN who STEPPED OUT IN FAITH into the unknown.

“
because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees, and my instructions.”
(Genesis 26: 5)

And God kept the promise to generations further to Jacob.
God said to the Israelites through Moses, “And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’ (Exodus 6: 8)
And HE DID.

It is by witnessing the faith of this One Man and the faithfulness of GOD to the promise that gave me the courage to step out into the unknown future.

It is amazing to witness the faithfulness of God through this story – and mine - to the very end. While we were there, He kept us, sustained us, and prospered us. The LORD kept His promise.

One step of faith changed the destiny of generations to come.
I wonder what trajectories are ordained for generations ahead that are waiting for a step of faith.
What is that which you need to step out into?
