INTRODUCTION Acts 8:1–8 marks a major turning point in the Book of Acts. Until this point, the church's ministry had been centered primarily in Jerusalem. Following Stephen's martyrdom, a great persecution broke out against the believers, forcing many Christians to flee the city. What appeared to be a tragedy became part of God's plan to spread the gospel beyond Jerusalem. As believers scattered throughout Judea and Samaria, they carried the message of Jesus Christ with them. Philip, one of the seven servants chosen in Acts 6, became a key instrument in bringing the gospel to Samaria.
