Samuel’s Sermon

“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3
“How old do you have to be before you can preach, Mami?” my son Samuel asked.
“Well, son, you don’t have to be a certain age. You just have to pray and ask the Lord to help you put a sermon together, and then you’re all set.” I replied.
“When is Papi gonna be preaching again, Mami?”
“I don’t know, son; you’ll have to ask your father for his schedule.”
To my surprise, my six-year-old called his father at work and asked, “Papi, when are you scheduled to preach next?”
His father replied, and Samuel’s response was, “Okay, thank you!” and hung up the phone.
I watched as he grabbed a notebook, a Bible, and a Bible commentary, then marched straight into his bedroom.
Following him, I asked, “Son, what are you doing?”
“I’m working on my sermon!”
“Okay, son,” I responded. “Don’t forget to pray and ask the Lord for wisdom.”
It must have been a good half-hour or more before Samuel stepped out of his room with his sermon. It was on Creation—and it was written with crayons, Bible texts and all. Wow! What a blessing!
“You see this open space here, Mami?” he asked. “I didn’t write anything there because that’s where I’m gonna say something, and then I’ll go to the next text.”
I said a prayer for my son. I prayed that he might continue to love Jesus and give his energy and creativity to Him.
And a child shall lead them, I thought to myself.
Pray for our children worldwide. Pray for the parents, and pray for each other. Let’s fill the minds of our children with that which will draw them to Jesus. And praise be to God!
