FORGIVENESS FROM THE CROSS

```TEXT: MATTHEW 18:21-35```
```KEY VERSE:``` "So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses" (MATTHEW 18:35).

Peter asked Jesus, “How many times shall I forgive my brother? Till seven times?” He thought he was being generous. Jesus answered, “Until seventy times seven.” Then He told of a servant who owed ten thousand talents — an impossible debt — and was forgiven. That same servant went out and choked a fellow servant for a hundred pence. The point is clear: those forgiven much must forgive much. Calvary is the reason and the power behind that command.

Three truths about forgiveness from the Cross: One, we owed a debt we couldn’t pay. The ten thousand talents represent our sin before God. No amount of good deeds, religion, or regret could clear it. Yet at Calvary, the King said, “I forgive thee all that debt.” Two, forgiven people forgive people. “Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?” (verse 33). Your brother’s offence is a hundred pence compared to the ten thousand talents Jesus cancelled for you. Three, unforgiveness imprisons you. The unforgiving servant was delivered to the tormentors. Bitterness is a jail with you as the only prisoner. The Cross opens the cell.

Who are you still choking today? A spouse, a parent, a friend, yourself? Bring that name to the Cross this Sunday. Remember what you were forgiven. You didn’t deserve mercy, but you received it. Now go and release what you’ve been holding. Forgiveness doesn’t mean what they did was okay. It means the Cross was enough.

✍🏽```THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:``` Calvary doesn’t just cancel your debt — it empowers you to cancel others’.

```THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:``` *JOB 37-39*
