A dear friend and fellow educator shared this prayer and I feel it is so timely.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today, I lift up our educators to You. So many are feeling hurt, hopeless, angry, exhausted, and defeated right now. And it’s not simply this time in the school year, a difficult parent, a challenging student, or some of those traditional troubles. It is those things, plus a broader landscape of leaders and legislators who appear indifferent to the needs of our children, and to the professionals who dedicate their lives to serving them.

Lord, I ask that You please be with our educators through this difficult and troubling season. No matter the circumstances, may they glorify You, be sustained by the gospel, and rest in Your sovereignty. Help them refuse to allow fear, anger, and hopelessness to dwell in their hearts. Draw them near, so they may lay their burdens at Your feet, take up Your full armor, and stand firm in You.

Father, equip and inspire our educators to keep showing up with a positive, joyful heart while giving their very best each day, knowing they don’t work for a governor, an education agency, a school board, or an administrator- they work for You. They have a stewardship You have ordained; a distinct and honorable privilege to shape the lives of the young people You have placed in their care.

Please eliminate the noise and distractions beyond their control, and focus them solely on the piece of Your kingdom You’ve entrusted to them; the children immediately before them- in their classroom, in their counseling office, in their library, in their gym, in their band hall, in their front office…

Heavenly Father, we know that no circumstance, no challenge, no hardship comes to us without first passing through Your hands, in accordance with Your purpose, to accomplish Your perfect will. I pray our educators have the peace, wisdom, and strength to continue blessing the lives of our children, to meet their academic, social, and emotional needs, and to love them well- all for Your glory, and Your glory alone. Amen.
