Patmos is the small Greek island in the Aegean Sea where the Book of Revelation says John was when he received the vision of Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:9 says John was there “because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus,” meaning his faith had brought him into exile, isolation, and suffering.

Out of that lonely place came one of the most powerful books in the Bible. Revelation opens with a vision of the risen Christ and continues with messages to the churches, warnings, judgments, worship in heaven, the defeat of evil, and the promise that Jesus will return and make all things new.

The island of Patmos is still remembered as a place where suffering became revelation. What looked like punishment became a place of prophecy, and what Rome meant for silence became a message that still speaks to believers around the world today.
