TRUSTING THE ROCK THAT CANNOT BE SHAKEN

July 17,2026.

Psalm 125:1–2; Matthew 7:24–25; Psalm 18:2; Psalm 27:2; Psalm 124:6–8; Proverbs 3:5–6; Jeremiah 17:7–8.

Yesterday, we established that building our lives on Jesus Christ—the Chief Cornerstone and the Solid Rock through His Word—is what gives us strength, stability, and an unshakable foundation when the storms of life arise. Today, we will go a step further by looking at what truly keeps a believer steadfast in every season.

The hymn writer declared:

"On Christ the solid Rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand."

However, there is a difference between standing on the Rock and trusting the Rock. Many profess Christ, but only those who completely trust Him remain unshaken when trials come.

The psalmist declared:

"Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever." (Psalm 125:1–2)

Notice that the promise is not merely for those who know the Lord, but for those who trust in Him. Genuine trust is demonstrated by believing and obeying His Word, especially when circumstances seem to contradict His promises.

The phrase "cannot be moved" suggests that there will always be attempts to shake your faith. Every believer will face forces that seek to move them away from God's will. These pressures often come in two forms:

Internal battles—such as fear, depression, sickness, anxiety, doubt, discouragement, guilt, and troubling thoughts.

External battles—such as persecution, satanic attacks, opposition, temptation, financial hardship, or the schemes of the enemy.

Yet God's promise remains sure: those who trust Him shall not be moved.
David testified:

"When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell." (Psalm 27:2)

Likewise, the psalmist rejoiced:

"Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth." (Psalm 124:6–8)

The storms may rage, the enemy may attack, and life's pressures may intensify, but the believer who trusts in the Lord remains secure because God Himself surrounds and preserves them.

The secret to standing firm on the Solid Rock is absolute trust in the Lord. The Lord is not only pleased when we confess Him with our lips but when we rely on Him wholeheartedly. As Proverbs 3:5 reminds us:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding."

So, the question today is: Do you truly trust the Lord, or are you trusting your own strength, wisdom, or circumstances?
Those who place their confidence in Christ will never be disappointed.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to trust You with all my heart. Strengthen my faith so that neither internal struggles nor external pressures will move me away from You. Keep me firmly established on Christ, the Solid Rock, and let my life continually testify of Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
