DEVOTING OUR WHOLE SELVES TO GOD
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your entire mind.
Luke 10:27
Our faith is not meant to be relegated to ninety minutes on a Sunday morning. It is a primary way of life where every moment is filtered through our love for Him. This command calls for a devotion that involves every part of our being. Loving God with our heart and soul speaks to our inner world, including our deepest desires, emotions, and the core of who we are. Loving Him with our strength and mind refers to our outward life, such as our intellect, physical energy, resources, and actions. Together, these represent a full and undivided devotion.

We also see how this links our love for God directly to how we treat those around us. Jesus lived a life of perfect humility, and we are called to follow His lead by putting others above ourselves. Loving our neighbor as ourselves means applying the same level of concern to their needs that we naturally have for our own. We stop elevating our own wants and instead pay attention to how we can serve and help others. When we live in Jesus, His love flows through us, allowing us to demonstrate the same grace to our neighbors that we have received from Him.

It can be tempting to separate our lives into different categories, like work, social life, and church. However, this verse invites us into an integrity of devotion where every part of our life belongs to God. We cannot segment our hearts and say that one part is for Him while another is not. He wants it all. Whether people are watching us or not, we are called to walk in a love that reflects His character.

This level of love can feel difficult, but the standard of as yourself makes it very specific. If we want to be forgiven when we mess up, we should extend that same forgiveness to those who hurt us. If we want our own needs to be met, we should look for ways to meet the needs of others. As we fall more in love with Jesus, this lifestyle of sacrificial love becomes our natural response.
God bless you!
