Be Bold, Be Strong

“Be bold, be strong, for the Lord your God is with you.”

I remember singing this song in church. We would shout it out with all our might, surrounded by other believers, feeling bold, strong, and ready to conquer the world.

But then Sunday would end.

We would step outside the church walls and back into everyday life, and somehow that same boldness seemed to disappear.

So what happened?

Why did the courage we felt in church fade when we faced our workplace, our families, our neighbours, or our friends?

Scripture gives us the answer.

Boldness doesn’t come from being in a church building. It comes from being in the presence of Jesus.

The religious leaders looked at Peter and John and saw something different about them:

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13

They weren’t amazed by their education or eloquence. They were ordinary men. What stood out was their boldness, and the only explanation people could find was that they had been with Jesus.

The early church also teaches us other keys to living boldly.

They spent time with Jesus. Their relationship with Him transformed them.

When they were threatened, they didn’t pray for an easier life, they prayed for greater courage.

“And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness.” Acts 4:29

After they prayed, they were filled again with the Holy Spirit, and “they spoke the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31

Boldness grows when we live in God’s presence, depend on Him in prayer, and remain filled with His Spirit.

The world around us is desperate for hope, and we carry the greatest news anyone could ever hear.

The question is: when people see us, do they recognise that we have been with Jesus?

Can your family see it?

Can your work colleagues see it?

Can your friends recognise it?

In the times we are living in, this is not the moment to shrink back. It is time to boldly proclaim who you are in Christ.

You don’t need impressive words.

You don’t have to know the answer to every question. Sometimes the most honest response is, “I don’t know, but I’ll find out.”

God has never asked us to have all the answers. He has simply asked us to be faithful.

So be bold.

Be strong.

Be courageous.

Take the first step in faith, knowing that the Lord your God is with you. You may never fully realise the impact that one act of obedience, one conversation, one testimony, or one invitation could have on someone’s life.

Someone may recognise that you have been with Jesus and that recognition could change their eternity.
