Many years ago, I came across a story that left a lasting impression on me. Whether you see it as a true account or an illustration, it carries a powerful lesson that every parent and every young person should take seriously.
There was a woman who constantly compared her husband and children with other people in the neighborhood. Because of this habit of comparison, there was always conflict in the home. Peace was far from that family.
Since the mother spent more time with the children, two of them gradually began to embrace her wrong mindset, especially in their father's absence. At the age of 17, the son started bringing money home, and so did the daughter. Sadly, their mother never questioned where the money was coming from because she was only interested in keeping up with others.
One day, the daughter fell seriously ill and was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. It became evident that she had lived a promiscuous lifestyle, driven by the pressure to acquire wealth and status quickly. Influenced by her mother's constant comparisons, she had become involved with politicians and other men in pursuit of money.
The son, on the other hand, joined a cult group that was involved in armed robbery, rape, and other violent crimes. He continued bringing money home, and his mother gladly accepted it without asking questions.
Eventually, the gang was involved in a fierce gun battle in Delta State. They were captured, arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by firing squad.
Before his execution, the young man made one final requestβto see his mother. When she arrived, he asked her to come closer. As she leaned in, he bit off part of her ear and cried bitterly:
"Whenever my father corrected me and warned me against my evil ways, you encouraged me instead. Today, see how my life is ending."
With tears streaming down his face, he met his tragic end.
Lessons from the Story
Dear parents, never compare your children with anyone else. Also, do not allow relatives or friends to compare them with others. Every child has a unique destiny and purpose in Christ.
Remember, lasting success comes gradually. Even God created the world in stages. Therefore, do not be in a hurry to become wealthy. Stay focused, work honestly, and trust God's timing.
Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6 (KJV)
"π΅π’π‘ ππππππππ π π€ππ‘β ππππ‘πππ‘ππππ‘ ππ πππππ‘ ππππ."
My advice to everyone is this: Learn to be content and grateful to God for where you are at every stage of life.
Life is in phases, and people are at different levels. Growth and lasting change come little by little.
God bless you, and have a wonderful day.
