Matthew 13:36-43
How do ALL of them get this wrong?
And now, we are here. The eschatological passage that literally says the direct opposite of what modern day evangelicals teach. Jesus is explaining the parable of the weeds and tares. Here, Jesus gets more specific with His explanation.
He says He is sower. He came to spread the good seed, His message. And at the same time, the enemy sowing weeds or tares is Satan. So Jesus came to present His message and the devil came to interfere with His message. The good seed represents the sons of the kingdom. The bad seed represents the sons of the devil. And the harvest time represents the end of it age, the last days.
So here, Jesus gives us a lesson on what will happen when He returns for His people. But what does he say? The weeds are destined for the burning. So what does Jesus say will happen?
At the end of the age, the angels of God will be sent into the world to…
Gather out of His Kingdom all who are stumbling blocks and who commit lawlessness.
Throw them into the furnace of fire where they will be burned up.
Weeping and gnashing of teeth shows that these people are being removed first to an eternal Hell.
THEN the righteous will shine forth.
So Jesus is saying, that first gathering? That initial ‘rapture’ will not be one of Christians being taken out of the world. It is one of removing the sons of Satan from the world.
But that's not what the rapture movies show. That's not what mainline denominations teach. Mainline denominational agreement on end times theology has for the most part agreed on basics.
That at a certain point, all Christians will be raptured or taken up to Heaven while alive as living unbelievers are left to rot in a tribulation.
That while tribulations occur, non believers will come to faith during the trials and be persecuted by an ever growing presence of evil in the world.
Then at the end of 7 (or 3.5) years Jesus returns to judge the world, punish the unbelievers and begin our time in Heaven with evil being defeated.
However, the bible teaches there will be a tribulation, there will be a rapture of believers and also a rapture or removal of the sinful sons of the devil too but when? Because the Bible does teach that all that will happen. But nowhere are we told a specific timeline as to when these events take place.
There is nothing specific that says anything about a believers rapture happening before a tribulation. So the Bible teaches that there will be a tribulation, and that there will be a rapture, but the timing of when each will happen is not spelled out.
The mainline denominational teaching is much better for drama or movie making but cannot be supported scripturally. Jesus is clearly saying there will be a rapture of the wicked leaving the righteous standing there holy. Before you scream, “that can't be right” read the text again.
Because your basis for claiming to be right stems from end times theology not scripture. It's the theology that makes this passage not make sense. It's a misunderstanding of the prophecy from Daniel 9 and the 70 weeks. We will have a separate lesson for Daniel 9 later.
This apparent inconsistency in scripture exists because of a couple of reasons. 1. The idea that Christians will escape the tribulation is not in Scriptures. That comes from the first edition of the Scofield New Testament footnote about the rapture. This interpretation is then “read into” other Bible passages. 2. There are no bible verses linking the order in which events will occur in the end times. Most of these assumptions are based on presupposed ideas not found in scripture.
How do we explain this then? How does one bible passage speak on the removal of Christians from the tribulation and the other passage say it's the evil sons of Satan being removed? You can't rapture the evil ones and have a tribulation to survive with only Christians left aIive.
What if however, the tribulation is meant to be survived by everyone? Meaning, yes there will be a rapture of believers and yes a rapture of the evil ones but note there's no timeline given. And if we are both non believers and believers supposed to live through the tribulation then the (2) raptures will occur in the following manner.
The tribulation occurs and Christians are persecuted, executed and more by the anti-Christ forces of the One World Government.
The tribulation ends with the impending return of Jesus preceded by the removal of the wicked from the kingdom which leaves the righteous standing there alone, who are then caught up to live with God forever. The lost are separated from the saved and whisked away to Hell, followed almost immediately by the saved being caught up to Heaven while the old earth burns up and is replaced.
Once the old heavens and earth pass away, we get the new and begin to move in.
In conclusion, be grateful our salvation is not based on whoever gets eschatology 100% right.
[36] Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” [37] And He said, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, [38] and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the weeds are the sons of the evil one; [39] and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. [40] So just as the weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. [41] The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, [42] and they will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. [43] Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. The one who has ears, let him hear.
