On the Mount of Olives, Jesus spoke of the end. The disciples asked, “When shall these things be?” Jesus spoke of wars, famines, false christs, and shaking heavens. Yet in the middle of gloom, He gave a gleam — He is coming back. The same Jesus who came meek to Calvary is coming mighty in glory. The Cross was His first coming in humility to save. His second coming will be in majesty to reign. Three truths about His coming: One, it will be sudden and visible. “As the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west.” No secret rapture myth, no hidden code. When He comes, every eye shall see Him. Lightning doesn’t hide. Neither will the King. Two, it will be glorious and triumphant. “They shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” The One they mocked, crowned with thorns, will come crowned with glory. The Lamb becomes the Lion. Three, it calls us to be ready now. “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” (verse 42). Calvary saved you, but His coming should sober you. Are you cold, careless, or compromising? Do you feel overwhelmed by today’s news — wars, deception, lawlessness? Jesus said these are birth pangs, not the end. Lift up your head. Calvary guarantees the Second Coming. He who came to die will come again to reign.
